In the vast world of vacation rentals, there’s something special for everyone on Airbnb. The popular lodging platform offers truly unique stays you won’t find anywhere else. And if you do a little digging, you can take part in Hollywood history in a uniquely intimate way, at least for a weekend.
While stumbling upon the occasional celebrity host can be exhilarating, staying in a home previously owned by some of the biggest names in Hollywood packs its own brand of star power.
If you’re interested in living like iconic actors, artists, and musicians, consider booking your stay at one of these former celebrity homes on Airbnb.
Bing Crosby’s Retreat, Palm Springs, CA
Located in the historic “Movie Colony East” district of Palm Springs, this 1934 hacienda was once owned by Bing Crosby. Just far enough from the Hollywood spotlight, Crosby could take a dip in his heated swimming pool then take a stroll through his private citrus grove, and so can you.
The landmark home’s interiors are equally impressive, with its vaulted ceilings and state-of-the-art chef kitchen, and three of the four bedrooms have private pool access. And it’s now remodeled with luxurious modern touches. Take a walk through the neighborhood for sightings of other former celebrity homes, including the pads of Frank Sinatra and Bob Hope.
Sonny & Cher’s Bungalow, Los Angeles, CA
Sonny and Cher’s former love nest has not only been deemed an architectural landmark by the L.A. Conservancy, but it’s also now a rentable retro wonder on Airbnb. For around $600 a night, this bohemian bungalow with celebrity status can be yours.
Designed in 1954 and a stone’s throw from Hollywood, Villa Carmelita has been fully remodeled but holds onto its original charm. Take the private road to one of the most upscale areas in Hollywood history. Then, take in unmatched views of the San Fernando Valley and L.A. from the picturesque place the iconic pop duo once called home.
Jimi Hendrix’s Hideaway, Hawaii
Dubbed the “Adorable Garden Gingerbread House,” this Hawaiian hut surrounded by greenery was the home of Jimi Hendrix while filming “Rainbow Bridge” in 1970. If you’re going to Maui, it can be your tranquil home away from home too, and only for about $200 a night.
Built in the 1930s, this quaint cottage has since been renovated to include some truly special touches to give its guests the celebrity treatment. From the custom-built tiled shower to its stunning high cathedral ceilings, warp speed wifi, and tropical fruit trees for miles, you’ll have everything you need and then some.

Julie Andrews’ Rubber House, New York
These days, the Rubber House is an Airbnb celebrity in its own right. Not only was this modern mansion the former home of Julie Andrews, but it was also originally built for famed choreographer Eugene Loring.
This architectural case study offers “calm and convivial seclusion.” Its industrial kitchen is fit for a star chef and the dance studio is nothing short of dazzling. Guests have noted something magically calming about this luxury stay and its idyllic rural surroundings. I’d like to think that’s a big part of what Julie Andrews liked about it, too.
John Steinbeck’s Creative Cottage, Pacific Grove, CA
If you want to stay in this prolific author’s former writing studio, there’s a 30-night minimum. While it’s ideal for a writer’s retreat, this charming 1940s home has also been voted one of the 20 most romantic rentals on Airbnb.
Your stay will be only $100 a night and you’ll be sleeping where Frank Sinatra once crashed. But remember, the discounted rate comes with a commitment. So be prepared to set up shop for at least a month in this cozy, fully stocked cottage.
F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Zelda Suite, Montgomery, Alabama
Calling all literature buffs. This sought-after suite once belonged to Scott Fitzgerald and Zelda Fitzgerald. Adding to its specialness, this historic home is also the only museum dedicated to the Fitzgeralds on earth. Many say it’s also full of creative inspiration and good vibes.
During their time here in the 1930s, these legendary writers were busy writing “Save Me The Waltz” and “Tender is The Night.” Once they moved out, this beautiful home was divided into apartments and the Fitzgerald Museum.
Ava Gardner’s Place, Burbank, CA
For just $84 a night, you can rent a private room in this Burbank home and live like one of old Hollywood’s most celebrated leading ladies. The silver screen queen once shared this lovely space with a famed jazz musician, Artie Shaw.
Built in 1938 in the Art Moderne style, this stunning escape is also a book lover’s paradise. There’s a gorgeous home library filled with over 1,000 books and a reading nook fit for Hollywood royalty.
If you’re looking for something a little more glitzy, Palm 57 is dripping in Hollywood glamour and rumor has it, Gardner was the first to ever rent it as a means of keeping her eye on old blue eyes, Frank Sinatra.
Denzel Washington’s Oceanside Oasis, Malibu, CA
This gorgeous, three-bedroom home has been owned by Jan-Michael Vincent, Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page, and last but certainly not least, A-list actor Denzel Washington. But its main selling point is undoubtedly the view.
Whether you’re lounging by the pool or having coffee on the patio, you’ll be perched 100m high on Malibu’s most pristine cliffside. Take in the panoramic view of dolphins jumping, surfers catching cinematic waves, and majestic mountains for miles.
Charlie Chaplin’s Home, Topanga Canyon, CA
Believe it or not, Charlie Chaplin once called this beachy abode home sweet home. Once upon a time in more recent Hollywood history, Mickey Rooney made this canyon craftsman his own as well.
Loaded with vintage charm, modern upgrades, and a home theater screen, you’ll be living like a Tinsel Town legend. And the host says it’s “wonderfully situated for gentle ocean breezes in a ‘climate-perfect’ area.”
